Rudrajit Roy earns directorial honour at Third Eye Asian Film Festival

Kolkata filmmaker Rudrajit Roy has emerged as the only director from West Bengal to be honoured at the 22nd Third Eye Asian Film Festival, winning the Best Director (Special Jury Mention) in the Indian Cinema Competition for his film Pinjar – The Cage.The recognition marks a milestone in his cinematic journey, placing him among a select group of filmmakers celebrated for artistic merit and social relevance at one of Asia’s most respected film platforms. The award was conferred by the festival jury in the presence of international jury member, curator and film critic Meenakshi Sheede, under the leadership of festival chairman Kiran V Shantaram and festival director Dr Santosh Gajanan Pathare. The jury praised the film for its nuanced storytelling, emotional depth and bold thematic treatment, noting Rudrajit’s restrained yet powerful narrative approach. A compelling exploration of human emotions and social realities, Pinjar – The Cage translates complex psychological and emotional conflicts into a visually engaging and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
