Stand-up comedians Vasu Primlani and Raj Sharma created a laughter riot recently in Gurgaon, entertaining an almost full auditorium in spite of the heavy rains. “I am hoping they show up, given the fact the weather outside is terrible,” said Vasu before the show began. But everyone rushed to their seats as soon as the doors opened. The show began with Rajneesh Kapoor, who hosted the event and introduced the two stand-up comedians, but he also cracked a few jokes.
“You guys laugh a lot, I like that,” he said about the cheering Gurgaonwaasis. After he signed off, Vasu took to the stage, and as she entered, she said, “As some of you must have noticed, I am a woman.” She even called a guest on stage and enacted the way some boys in Delhi stare at a girl.
The audience went into splits when Raj took over. After the show, he told us, “The Gurgaon audience was incredible – so good, so receptive. Delhi audience is a little conservative as compared to Gurgaon’s.” About the culture of NRI comedians gaining popularity in the recent years, Raj said, “Indians are naturally funny, I suppose, especially when it comes to Indians born abroad. You grow in a predominantly white society so it’s funny to see your dad or mom talk. I can say Russell Peters paved the way for all of us.”
