Director Balu Narayanan, in his upcoming film Sooran, has shown Chennai in a new light. A source close to the director says, “When foreigners come to Chennai, all they see are the tall buildings, traffic congestion, posh, star hotels and tall hoardings. They don’t know the other side of Chennai.”
The source adds, “North Chennai, or north Madras, is an integral part of the city.
It’s not posh-looking, nor is it full of riches. There’s dust, there are narrow alleys. And then, there’s violence. Director Balu Narayanan has chosen to showcase this side of Chennai in his Sooran. He’s shot the film in interesting and virgin locations in north Chennai.”
The film stars
Karan, Anu and
Shefali Sharma in the lead. “A 95-year-old man also makes his debut with film! Apart from that, Tony, a dog, plays an important role in the film. A fight sequence that was canned with 2000 people in Koyambedu will be one of the highlights of the film,” the source says.
