Shriya Saran is in Canada for the first time and it could well become her home. She is currently at the Toronto Film Festival, getting toasted for her performance in Dilip Mehtas Cooking With Stella. She will soon begin work on Deepas ambitious project, Kamagatara Maru. Talking to CT from Toronto, she says, I feel Im a part of Deepa and Dilips family.
Theyre both so fond of me. Every time Deepa hugs me, I feel Ive come home.
The actress chose to wear a sari, which has unfortunately been severely criticised for being garish and loud.
Defending her decision to wear the dress, she says, Since I was representing India, I thought a sari would be the best attire. Manish Malhotra designed it for me and I felt very comfortable in it.
Shriya, whos accompanied by her mother, is pretty excited. This is my first time in Toronto, and the first time at a festival. So, Im very excited about it.
Cooking With Stella is not her first international film. She did James Dodsons The Other End Of The Line, which not many have seen.
I know, sighs Shriya. We worked really hard on it. In fact, we went through an intense workshop before doing The Other End Of The Line. But... she trails off, and perks up in time to assure her Kollywood fans that she has a big Tamil film coming up this Deepavali.
Its Kutty with Danush and Sammir. Its a cute love story and ideal for Deepavali. And Im not doing any Hindi films right now. For now, after Toronto, Im off to New York for a festival of south Indian films, she says.
