If you get a peek into her working style, you wouldn’t believe she’s a novice who has just one film behind her. Because Shilpa Ganesh works with the precision of a pro. When she made inroads into Sandalwood by producing hubby Ganesh’s Maleyali Jotheyali, she made industrywallahs sit up and take notice of her film-making skills — all the more surprising because she has no filmi background or connections.
And now, with her second production, Shilpa has taken up another task in which she has no formal training: costume design.
“But I’ve always been a creative person with a flair for fashion and dressing. Even when I dress up, I always add an extra zing to my clothes,” she tells us. “Besides, I’ve always taken special interest in Ganesh’s wardrobe even off-screen. I love styling him — from choosing his jeans and tees to his belts,” adds Shilpa. So when Kool went on the floors, she thought she might as well showcase this skill in a bigger medium. “It was intentional because I wanted to break the monotony. Ganesh has sported the same look and hairstyle in his last 10 films. I wanted to give him a look that’ll take his fans by surprise. Hopefully, we’ve achieved it. Ganesh just completed the make-over and left for Sakleshpur on Monday,” says Shilpa, who’s even designing Kool heroine Sana Khan’s outfits. “If I buy him a pair of jeans, I add an extra element to it — put a motif, get it embroidered or dyed into a different colour. I’ve given him different looks before and after the interval. For the songs, I’ve completely let go and experimented with a lot of colours because song sequences give you the freedom to go wild. I’ve also improvised on some salwars for the heroine,” smiles Shilpa. So does the Golden Star sit with her for consultations? “Nope, and I don’t charge him consultation fees because I’m an in-house designer! That apart, Ganesh trusts my choices completely,” admits Shilpa, who wants to limit her design skills only to their home banner. She’s only made an exception for G’s Maduve Mane.Meanwhile, the star wife is now off with her latest creations to the sets of Kool in the scenic estates of Sakleshpur. “We will reveal his make-over a couple of days before the film’s release. We will also embark on our next project soon after Kool hits theatres,” says Lady G. And we hearit’s with K Manju.Follow us on Twitter for more stories
