Director Shashank’s Krishnan Love Story (KLS) is releasing this week alongside Raavanan. “It’s not a new thing; we’ve always been facing this problem in the Kannada industry. Yet, we exist and it’s only because of quality films,” says Shashank. He adds, “Irrespective of what the budget is, the success of a film depends on its subject. And I’m confident that my film will live up to people’s expectations,” he says. The director, who won a Filmfare award for his previous film, Moggina Manasu (MM), says KLS is even better than MM. His biggest inspiration, says Shashank, is Mani Ratnam. “Having a release alongside Mani Ratnam’s film is an achievement. He has delivered many hits and that’s also my motto. I don’t have any fear when I start a film, as I make it only after I’ve gained the confidence to do so. I’m not keeping my fingers crossed. There’s no doubt that the film will be liked by the audience,” he says.
The director is also happy with the starcast of KLS. “Radhika, who was in my previous film Moggina Manasu, will have a huge impact on the viewers. Her character Geetha, has many shades. I think this role will be the best in her career. She has to come back to me if she wants to do a better film than this. There are actresses who look for challenging roles; Radhika’s one of them. She’ll walk away with the honours even this year,” says the director. About Ajay, the director says, “He’s done justice to the character. Ajay’s an actor to watch out for in this film.”
Shashank adds that KLS is based on his friend Harsha’s love story. But he has changed the climax. “I had to change it because the audience cannot digest the real ending. You have to make the end look convincing,” he explains.
But he has ensured that Harsha will reveal the real ending to the audience. “My friend will share his painful experience with the media after the film releases. So, we’ll get to know both sides of the story,” he says. That’s not all. The director has invited couples to share their love stories as well. “I want to know if any couple has gone through similar situations. We’ll honour the pair whose story is along the lines of my film,” wraps up Shashank.
