Looks like Sasikumar will have a blast this Pongal. The ace director-actor will be celebrating Pongal this year with his family in Madurai. “For the past three years, I was neck-deep in work and couldn’t be with my family for the occasion. I’m going to make it up this time,” he tells TOI.Sasikumar is taking a break after a hectic three years, during which he juggled three different roles — director, actor and producer.
Sporting a new look (long hair neatly pulled back with a hair band),
Sasi is gearing up for his next movie Porali. The movie, the shoot for which will begin from the end of March, will have Sasikumar playing the lead and his buddy Samuthirakani wielding the megaphone.
“Porali is a slice-of-life movie told from the point of view of many characters. It is a balance between rural and urban life. Except for me, the rest of the cast will be newcomers,” he informs.
Quiz him about Easan and he says, “It was an experimental movie. I wanted to break the mould and get into new themes. It took some time to reach the targeted audience as most expected a film along the lines of Subramaniapuram,” he says.
So, why is he not experimenting with prominent actors in the field? “I have never said I wouldn’t. I will do such a movie when the right time comes,” he maintains.
On a signing off note, he says, “Talks to do a Malayalam movie are on now. This year, I will also act in a movie by a new director.”
