RGV tweaked Lakshmi’s role
Lakshmi Manchu, who is all set to produce a film in Tamil, may be making her Bollywood debut playing Sanjay Dutt’s wife in Ram Gopal Varma's thriller, Department, but the actress is no stranger to Sanju baba.
The two go back a long way. “My dad and Sanju’s dad Sunil uncle were very good friends. They were in the Rajya Sabha together. And so, Sanju was often at my house.”
Ram Gopal Varma signed up Lakshmi after seeing her play a witch in the Siddharth-starrer Anaganaga O Dheerudu.

The maverick director tweaked the role in the film to suit Lakshmi. “It was meant to be a conventional housewife role. But Ramu tweaked it a lot when I joined the cast. I belong to a very different school of acting and come from the one my dad belonged to. I was coached by Milton Katselas, who trained Elizabeth Taylor and Kate Hudson. And so, Ramu wanted to give the role a more unique dimension,” admits Lakshmi.
