‘Ramya looks like Yogi’s akka’

That’s why director P Vasu chose newbie Akanksha over Ramya for the Sandalwood remake of Polladhavan.

Another Kollywood film is going to be a Sandalwood remake this time its the Dhanush-starrer Polladhavan, which will be remade as Punda.
On the movie to be produced by Kuppuswamy, director P Vasu says, Polladhavan is a universal subject and we chose Yogi because hes apt for the film. Was Yogi selected because hes often been compared to Dhanush? Ive heard that they share a lot of similarities.

But we chose the young actor because, like the character, hes also also crazy about motorbikes. He also had the dates for us, explains Vasu.
Ramya, aka Divya Spandana, who starred opposite Dhanush in the original, reportedly didnt fit the bill for the remake. Vasu says, Ramya was very keen to do the remake. In fact, she approached us for it. But we had to take the age factor into consideration. Ramyas starred opposite actors like Upendra and Darshan; with the 19-year-old Yogi, she looks like his akka!
But wouldnt having Ramya in the film be a draw for audiences here? Though Ramya was good in the Tamil version, Dhanush got all the attention because everyone there is crazy about him. Were making the mistake of remaking Polladhavan; we should at least make this correction in our film, laughs Vasu.
But the director is very happy with newbie Akanksha, wholl star opposite Yogi in Punda. I saw Akanksha in Naanyaru, in which she played a homely girl. But when I saw her glam pictures, I felt she was perfect for the role. And since Akankshas a newcomer, she wont make a fuss about shooting schedules, says Vasu, wholl start shooting the film from June 11, which will be wrapped up in 78 days.
