Publicity is the key to a film's success: Tarun Chandra
Tarun Chandra was mighty kicked when he got the chance to work in an action flick, which he hoped would break his romantic hero stereotype.
But the actor felt shattered when the film, Naanalla, received little pre-release publicity and hence failed to make an impact at the BO. For starters, says Tarun, the movie was released earlier than actually planned.
1x1 polls
“The producer suddenly decided to release the film. He had his own reasons, but I was quite angry because even I got to know only in the last minute, by which time it was too late to do anything about promoting the film,” says Tarun, adding, “There has been a massive dip in the collections because the film did not have enough publicity. I conveyed this to the director too.”
And publicity, he says, is the key to a film’s sucess. “Naanalla has a wonderful subject, but it failed to reach out to audiences because not many had heard of it. This has taught me that when my next film is ready for release, I will have to go all out and ensure that it is promoted,” says Tarun, who is currently shooting for the multi-starrer Snehitharu. “I play a slum-dweller in the film, which requires me to look rough and tough,” he says.
Tarun has worked in quite a few multi-starrers. What does he prefer? “I’d prefer being the sole protagonist. The advantage of a multi-starrer is that the responsibility gets shared between everyone involved, whereas with a solo hero project, you have to take complete responsibility of the film,” he says.
Now that he has tried his hand at the action genre, is he looking at getting a six-pack abdomen, like Puneeth and Prem? “I had managed to sport a four-pack ab in Gaana Bajana, so I am not averse to getting a six-pack. If the script demands I will give it a shot.” says Tarun, who has wrapped up shooting for Ondu Kshanadalli and Acchu Mecchu. “Both films are very different from each other. Ondu Kshanadalli is likely to release in November, followed by Acchu Mecchu in December,” he says.
