It’s official now. Choreographer- actor- director Prabhu Deva has joined one of India’s finest directors, Santosh Sivan’s tri-lingual period film Urumi.
Urumi, with the tag line The Boy who wanted to kill Vasco da Gama is being made in Malayalam, Tamil and an abridged English version for the international market. “ Urumi is the 8-ft long flexible sword that has been used in kalari (a traditional martial technique) for a long time.

The script of the film has been penned by Sankar Ramakrishnan, who directed the promising short film Island Express in the Kerala Cafe anthology. The film, is set in the 15th century and will be made for the international audiences too, explains Santosh.
According to him, Prabhu Deva, will play an important character in the film. While Prithviraj and Genelia will play the lead, Chandan Roy Sanyal of Kaminey fame will play the villain. Deepak Dev has been roped in, to score the music. “Others in the cast are being finalised and we will announce it in a week’s time,” says Santosh.With stars like Prabhu Deva, Prithvi and Genelia in the lead, this one’s expected to be a rocking film.
