No stay order against Unnaipol Oruvan: Kamal
Padmashri Kamal Haasan, who has refuted allegations levelled against him by Pyramid Saimira, has said that no stay order had been obtained by the latter against the release of his next film Unnaipol Oruvan as reported by a section of the media.
In a release, the ace star said, My attention has been drawn to reports in a section of the press that Pyramid Saimira has obtained a stay against the release of our movie Unnaipol Oruvan.
1x1 polls
It is not true.
Pyramid Saimira had earlier issued a legal notice to Kamal Haasan and his production company, alleging that the actor had failed to complete its Rs 100-crore movie Marmayogi after receiving an advance of Rs 10.9 crore. Pyramids suit claimed that the actor had commenced work on Unnaipol Oruvan, in gross violation of the terms of the agreement that he would not act in any other movie till Marmayogi was completed and released.
Responding to the claim, Kamal said, The debacle of our film Marmayogi and the circumstances around it are well-known. I worked on Marmayogi exclusively, without taking up any other assignment for a year, made elaborate preparations, had sets built and even did some shooting, directing and acting. However, the project was put on the back burner because Pyramid Saimira could not come up with funds to continue shooting.
Having lost one year of my career and an income of about Rs 40 crores, I issued a notice to Pyramid Saimira on April 12, 2009 demanding payment of Rs 40 crores. No reply has been received so far from Pyramid to the notice. We have also had caveats entered against Pyramid Saimira in courts, he added.
The star further said, I have also caused a suit to be filed in the High Court of Madras against Pyramid Saimira. Probably, to counter my legal action against them, they have decided to go to the press on a smear campaign and they have sent me a notice making wild and false allegations. An interim reply has also been sent to it.
He summed up the situation saying, The fact remains that I have obtained a caveat against them. I, nor Raajkamal Films International, have received any stay order from any court.
