I’ve been living in Basavanagudi for long and have seen the area go through different transitions — good and bad. Even then, I can confidently say that the area continues to be one of the most beautiful places to stay in Bangalore.Mine is the fifth generation of the Sri Marriappa family residing in Basavanagudi. The beautiful Krishna Rao park is right in front of my house.
Living near so much greenery makes it impossible for me to consider living elsewhere. The Lalbagh Botanical garden is also just a stone’s throw away from my house. I go there regularly for a jog when I’m not shooting.
My fave part of pack-up after a shoot is the thought that I am going back home; back to the peace and serenity the place has to offer.
Vidyarthi Bhavan’s masala dosas, Upahara Darshini’s idlis and the amazing shavarma rolls of Kabab Magic are some my favourites. My regular hang-outs also include the buzzing Gandhi Bazaar, DVG Road and Thindi Beedhi. I love hanging out with my friends at chaat street and munch on churmuri and paani puri.
My other favourite hang-out is the cafe on Ashoka Pillar Road that I frequent with my small group of friends, Patre Ajit, Dharma Keerthi Raj, Anup Bharadwaj, Sudhir and Manjunath. From the calm residential streets to the lively market area, I like everything about Basavanagudi. It’s my favourite place.
And contrary to popular belief, Basavanagudi is not a sleepy, pensioners’ paradise. It is the place where people of all ages can come and have a good time. True it still has an old-world charm, but Basavanagudi also has its share of modernism.
