'Namukku Parkkan' beats 'Urumi'

The Anoop Menon-Ratheesh Vega combination has raised the stakes in Mollywood’s music bid with their latest flick Namukku Parkkan’s audio rights fetching a record price.
Our sources tell us that the music rights for the Aji John-directed flick, which has three songs, have been clinched by Sathyam Audios for a price close to 13 lakh, making it the highest ever, beating Prithviraj’s Urumithat fetched 10 lakh.
With the highest figure in recent times being Aashiq Abu’s 22 Female Kottayam, which was picked up at 5.45 lakh, Namukku Parkkan’s deal breathes new life to Mollywood’s music industry which had taken a nosedive recently with songs fetching only 50,000 on an average.
However, Namukku Parkkan’s high price is hardly unexpected as the last time Ratheesh composed for Anoop’s lyrics in Beautiful, it resulted in Mazhaneer Thullikal and Moovanthiyay being two of the most popular tunes last year.
While Beautiful got only about 2 lakh through music rights, it succeeded in raising the duo’s market value and sources say Namukku Parkkan producer Joy Thomas Shaktikulan-gara was even ready to go into distribution himself if the record companies weren’t ready for the deal.
Music director Ratheesh is obviously thrilled with the deal and says he hopes “it would revitalise Malayalam film music.” “The price is arrived at after the record company evaluates the song, its melody. We had astounding visuals too. Beautiful’s success also helped the matter,” says Ratheesh.
Sources say the flick’s two songs, Kannadi Kalangal and Kannmani Ninne Njan, will prove to be superhits with Ratheesh claiming that the former is his favourite.
“It’s a song that has touched me the most and when you listen to it, I can assure you that it will have you reminiscing through some of your most romantic memories,” he adds.
