UTV Motion Pictures’ Muran, co-produced with director Cheran, is unanimously being appreciated as one of the finest thrillers to emerge out of Kollywood in recent times and is a sure winner in terms of entertainment value. Though it is a thriller, the film has no crassness or gore.
1x1 polls
The film’s idea is novel to this genre in Tamil cinema; two strangers who meet accidentally agree to kill someone the other person wants to bump off !
Most reviewers commented that the two male lead players’ riveting performance makes the film a must watch. Prasanna rocks as Arjun, the man with ice in his veins and has come out with a stunning performance as the mean, diabolic, creepy and psychopathic villain. Cheran is perfect as the soft, suave musician with guilt pangs. Their role and on-screen interaction is what makes the film click. The supporting cast — Nikhita, Haripriya, Suma Bhattacharya and Jayaprakash — also fit in well with the characters they portray. Haripriya as Lavanya, Cheran’s love interest, does her role well. The film’s background score by Saajan Madhav is another highlight of the film in addition to the two melodious songs, Idhu varai ... and Naan Kandaen....
Rajan Madhav, son of legendary music director Ravindran and the director of Muran, has come out with slickly made film that attempts to break moulds and respects the intelligence of the audience. The deftness, with which Rajan builds up the story to a crescendo, even as he keeps the suspense under wraps for long, shows the calibre of this first-time director.
Muran, which has emerged as a must-watch film due to its compelling plot, will certainly be remembered for a long time in Tamil cinema. Released worldwide directly by UTV Motion Pictures, the film is gaining good momentum at the box office through positive word-of-mouth publicity by film buffs.
