Mani Ratnam disappoints fans

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has been officially dropped. Mani Ratnam had reportedly told the cast and crew that the film will not take off as planned and has released their call sheets.
It has been reported that this film requires a huge budget and it is not possible to finance the project now. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ created a lot of expectations among the movie buffs as it had an ensemble of star cast including Vijay, Mahesh Babu, Parthiban, Sathyaraj, Anushka, Priyanka Chopra and others.
There were several attempts in the past to adapt this novel into a movie but all of them have failed. When Mani took up this project there was anticipation to see it onscreen but this seems to be out of question now.
