The life of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan suddenly seems to be talked-about in the movie trade. While we reported recently that
Roger Spottiswoode, who directed the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, is planning to capture the mathematician’s life as a film with Siddharth likely to be in the lead role, it is understood that he was not the first actor to be approached to play the genius.
Looks like Madhavan was approached to play the role much before Siddharth. When we quizzed the actor about it, he confirmed, adding, “He (Ramanujan) was a genius who never got the recognition he deserved. That’s why he died so young. In fact, he was far more brilliant than Einstein. Scientists are still trying to decipher his theorems today. His life is an inspiration for many and when I was recently shooting in Kumbakonam, I learnt a lot about his life and even visited his house there.”
