The actor will star in the Kannada remake of the Tamil sleeper hit Subramaniapuram Her last release Chiru only had an average run at the box office, but Kriti Kharbanda managed to capture the audience’s imagination. The actor, who proceeded to do films in Telugu, is now back in Sandalwood, with two films in her kitty. Just weeks after announcing that she’s doing a film opposite Diganth, Kriti has bagged the lead role in the Kannada remake of the Tamil sleeper hit, Subramaniapuram, opposite director-turned-actor Prem.
Tentatively called Adda (there’s a dispute over the title), the film will see Kriti go deglam for her role.
“A few days ago, I got a call from
Mahesh Babu, the director of Chiru, asking if I could spare 15 days for a film. He didn’t tell me anything about the film. Even then I agreed because Mahesh asked. It was a good two days later when I realized that I had just committed to the remake of Subramaniapuram. At first I was in shock that I was actually doing the remake of a film I’ve seen and loved. Subramaniapuram was a low-budget film set in the early 80s and my role requires no glamour. This is the first time I’ve been offered such a role,” says Kriti.
In preparation for her role, Kriti is going deglam at home. “When I’m at home, I strut around sans makeup with my hair oiled and in braids. I am hoping to do justice to the role that Swati did so beautifully,” says Kriti, whose Tollywood career is also going places. “I’ve started shooting for an untitled film with Junior NTR’s brother, Kalyan Ram. I’ve also got Mr Nokia with
Manoj Manchu,” says the actor.
Despite her good fortune in the Telugu film industry, Kriti has been making guest appearances in films. “I did Ala Modalandi because of director Nandini and Theen Maar for Pavan Kalyan. Both the films were big hits and being a part of a successful film, irrespective of my actual screen time, is a big achievement,” she states.
