Kamal's gift to society

He is admired for his acting skills and cherished as one of India’s most gifted actors.
But more importantly, Kamal Haasan, who is celebrating his birthday today, is loved for his clarity of thought and his concern for the less fortunate in the society.
The actor, who is known to be a philanthropist, has been involved in a number of activities beneficial to society and has associated himself with causes he deeply believes in.On the occasion of his birthday, Kamal is set to participate in several such activities aimed at benefiting the poor. The star is expected to participate in a function organised by his fan club, called the Tamil Nadu Kamal Haasan Welfare movement, at a popular auditorium near the beach.
The function, which will start at 9.30 am, will see Kamal give away a number of gifts and benefits to the less fortunate, selected from various parts of the state. Giving details of the function and the beneficiaries, Tamil Nadu Kamal Haasan Welfare movement state in-charge Thangavelu says, “The chief guest for the function will be Prof. Gnanasambandam. Kamal sir will present a number of items to various people, including a laptop for a class 12 student, uniforms to 56 auto drivers, 15 tailoring machines to women, medicines worth ` 20,000 to students of an NGO, 50 blankets to an institution in Tiruvannamalai that takes care of children suffering from AIDS, books worth ` 25,000 to college students, 100 pillows and mats to an old-age home, ` 10,000 each to three widows, and ` 3,000 to two physically challenged men.”
The actor is also expected to present a shield to the best district wing of his fan club on the occasion.
