Jai tells all...

Actor Jai fearlessly tells TOI the truth about his films, career and life..
Jai tells all...
It takes courage to speak the truth. For truth, in its unpolished form, can seem brutal.
But then, thats precisely what sets actor Jai apart and qualifies him to enter an elite league, comprising only a few who possess grit and guts.
The actor, who has so far had a dream run in Kollywood with back-to-back hits in Chennai-6000028 and Subramaniapuram at a time when the industry seems to be down in the doldrums, is a very practical man and has not allowed success to overwhelm him.
1x1 polls

Even the fact that he is working on four projects simultaneously with more waiting in the pipeline refuses to make him flinch from the stance that he has already adopted. But that isnt all that surprising, given the fact that he has already turned down at least 40 other projects that came his way after the success of Subramaniapuram.
Im working on Vamanan, Aval Peyar Thamizharasi, Arjunan Kadhali and Athey Neram Athey Idam now. I will soon be working again with Venkat Prabhu in Goa, he says before adding, Vamanans shooting is almost over. A new comer, Priya, has played the lead with me in this film, which has been directed by Ahmed. This is one movie that will always remain close to my heart and Im looking forward to its release.

But then ask him what is different about this movie to make him like it so much and he says, Im someone who prefers realism and I seek to portray characters that people can relate to and come across in real life. Not a superhuman who can bash up ten goons at one go. Director Ahmed too is one such person. Both of us believe in this aspect and our thought processes are so perfectly synchronised that there has hardly been any difference of opinion. It was a pleasure working with director Ahmed and the team which comprises my favourite music director Yuvan Shankar Raja and favourite cameraman Aravind Krishna.
He continues, The reason I say this movie will do well is because of the way it has been made. Director Ahmed is a very approachable man and has been open to suggestions from me and the other members of the team. In fact, I have enjoyed working on this project so much that I dont mind working as an assistant director to him in his future projects, irrespective of whether he decides to have me as a hero or not.
To make his point clear, he goes on, Im someone who does not hesitate to state facts. For instance, just as I say Vamanan will do well, I know for a fact that two of my future projects will flop. One will not last for more than a week in the theatres, while the other wont last for more than a fortnight. People tell me not to say such things about my own projects. But then, whether I state it or not, what is bound to happen will happen. You cannot fool the public. I ask such people, All these years, people have been saying good things about bad movies before their release. Has that been able to change the fate of such movies? No. They continue to flop. Then, what is the point in calling a badly made project a good film, when it is not going to alter the success factor?.
But what is it that makes him think that two of his projects wont work? Says he, These projects are being made according to a commercial formula and I dont think it will work.
So, is he not scared of failure? In this regard, I have to thank actor Ajith for the support he has been providing me. Whenever I have fear of this impending failure, I send him a message expressing my anxiousness about my career. I either get an SMS in reply or a call from him the very same day or the next day. He reassures me that all will be well and cites instances from his personal life to make me strong. His words have such an inspiring impact that they fill me with energy and hope, good enough to last for the next six months, he signs off with a smile.
