Mollywood director Jayaraj’s Nayika, a film that portrays the life of an actress in the film industry, is all set for release After almost two months since director Jayaraj announced the date of release of his Nayika, the film is finally seeing the light of day this week. Jayaraj says there were various reasons for the delay including the exhibitors’ strike.

“The film is set against the backdrop of the Malayalam film industry, but tells a story that is ever relevant to actresses in all languages,” says Jayaraj. “It’s set in the early phase of the industry and mainly revolves around the life of an actress of that era,” he adds. Point out the similarity in concept between Nayika and Heroine and Jayaraj says, “I have never heard of Heroine. I did not know of any such movie being made.”
Yesteryear actress Saradha plays the lead character, Gracy, while actress Padmapriya will play her younger version. Actress
Mamta Mohandas essays a pivotal role of a documentary filmmaker Aleena, who unravels the mystery surrounding Gracy’s rise and fall in the industry. “It’s a complete women-centric film with all the central characters essayed by women,” says Jayaraj.
