Life sure seems to be full of ups and downs for Sudeep at the moment. Not long after garnering critical acclaim for his performance in the recent Bollywood flick, Rann, he’s courting controversy. And it’s not the first time the actor has landed himself in a soup. This time, he’s been accused of slapping assistant director
Sagar on the sets of his latest directorial, Kanwarlal.
But Kicha denies having slapped Sagar. “I’m not a director who assaults subordinates. I have the habit of tapping people if something goes wrong. That’s what happened with Sagar,” clarifies Sudeep.
The actor goes on to add that the ‘minor’ issue was blown up when his long-term associate Suresh started shouting at him in Sagar’s defence on the sets. “I can’t tolerate yelling on the sets. It wasn’t nice for Suresh to come up to me and shout without knowing what exactly happened, that too at a different location on the sets. Now, Suresh is trying to apologise for the incident,” says Sudeep.
This isn’t the first time Sudeep has faced problems on the sets of his films — the last incident being during the shooting of Just Maat Mathalli. “It happens everywhere, not just on the sets of my films, but others don’t talk outside about what happens at a film location,” he says.
He admits though that he’s short-tempered, “But I know how to control my temper. I always try to be quiet when I’m angry,” he says. Creativity comes with challenges, Sudeep says. “In India, there are few people who act, direct and produce. If you are an actor-director, you can’t just sit in your caravan and come out when the shot is ready. You have to check on every minute aspect and manage to look fresh at the same time and that creates its own stress.” he says.
