I'm always on the phone now: Karthi
He may be the baby brother of superstar Suriya, but Karthi has managed to hold his own and rise to fame in the South industry.
The actor has earned a huge fan following not only in Kollywood, but also in Tollywood. And now he is riding on a new high in his personal life too. Karthi is all set to get hitched on July 3 to Ranjani. “Yes, life has certainly changed post my engagement.

These days I am constantly on the phone. I don’t usually use hands-free earphones to talk on the phone, but now I’m forced to do so, since Ranjani and I speak for hours together. Our conversations are endless,” quips the actor who will go on a month-long break after the wedding. “After that, it’s back to shooting,” says Karthi, who is throwing a grand party for his friends and filmi acquaintances in Chennai on July 7.
On the career front, the actor is happy with his Tollywood journey. His films “Yuganiki Okkadu” and “Awara” were money-spinners at the AP box office. Now he is back with “Naa Peru Shiva,” the dubbed version of his Tamil hit, “Naan Mahaan Alla,” with Kajal Agarwal. The movie is hitting the Telugu screens after a whole year of its release because Karthi, who has been working hard on his Telugu, was particular about dubbing for the film.
“I wanted to dub for my character myself. Lyricist Sashank Vennelakanti helped me get my diction right,” says the actor, who believes in doing only realistic cinema.
“I was comfortable doing this role because I didn’t feel like I was acting. It is a real life story of a middle-class boy who falls in love with a girl,” he adds.
Despite superhits like “Paruthiveeran” and “Awara,” Karthi has acted only in four films since 2007. “I am very selective when it comes to scripts. Unless they excite me, I don’t sign a movie. I don’t have a set target on the number of films I should do in a year. For me, scripts win over the number of films any day,” he says.
