He may not be in the city to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava, but Hat-trick Hero Shivarajkumar continues to do his bit for Kannada. The actor, who is currently in Hubli, along with several others from the
Sandalwood industry to play a cricket tournament between actors and directors, spoke to BT on the importance of Kannada Rajyotsava Day. “Kannada language gets its biggest support from the film industry, which is also why I am a part of films.
When there’s a perceived threat to our language, I’m always there to protect it,” says Shivanna, adding, “I’m a proud Kannadiga.”
But despite their best efforts to ensure that Kannada films reach out to all audiences, it is people from Uttara Karnataka who actually watch more Kannada films, maintains the actor. “Watching a Kannada movie should not be just about the stars, story, action and songs. You have to enjoy the language too,” he says.
And Kannadigas, says Shivanna, have to make an effort to get their non-Kannadiga pals to pick up the language. “If you are based in Karnataka, you might as well learn the language. If you teach someone the language, it is actually a seva to society,” says the actor, adding that the patriotic fervour of November 1 should continue throughout the year.
