Director-cum-actor Karu Palaniappan tells TOI about what lies in store for him after his bold film, Mandhira Punnahai.
Karu Palaniappan is a content man today. After having proved his mettle as a director, the man has now established himself as an actor as well with Mandhira Punnahai, his latest movie to hit the screens.
And like any good director who dares to experiment, Karu has too in the film. So, what is the biggest lesson that he has learnt from the experience? Says Karu Palaniappan, “The lesson that I’ve learnt from this experience is that I should continue to act.”
Does that mean he is going to act in his next film as well? Says the director-cum-actor, “No. It is true that I will continue to act. But as far as my next film is concerned, I will only be directing. In fact, I will be working with the same producer again. The reason I’m not acting in this film is because there is no suitable role for me. The protagonist of my next film is a college student.”
The actor is extremely pleased with the fact that several veterans of the film industry have watched the film and were impressed by it.
Says Palaniappan, “I’m so happy that a great director like Balachander sir took time to go to the theatre to watch my film. I met him in person after he watched the movie and he congratulated me saying that to even think of such a bold script, one needed guts. He insisted that I continue to make more such movies.”
So, is he going to start work on his next project immediately? “No. first, I’m planning to go on a holiday to Singapore with my producer. We want to relax before we start work on our next project,” he signs off.
