Rajjan Madhav moves away from Mollywood to bet on the Tamil film industryDebutante director and son of musician Raveendran, Rajjan Madhav is eagerly awaiting the release of his Tamil film Muran. The movie is scheduled for release across all four southern states simultaneously. "Muran is a psychological thriller which revolves around two main characters that are contradictory by nature.
Actors Cheran and Prasanna play these lead roles. The contradiction is the basic concept of the movie."
Denying rumours that state that the film is based on director Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, Rajjan says. "It's been inspired by a novel by Patricia Highsmith, on which Hitchcock's movie is based on too. But this is my version of the story and you will find a lot of differences in the story. The characters and situations are those which our audiences can identify with."Incidentally, actor Cheran was quite impressed with the concept right from the moment he heard it through. "Cheran felt this was a beautiful adaptation of the story and that he had never done anything like it before, so much so that he decided to produce the film as well," says Rajjan. While the film will see a release in Kerala as well, the thought of making a Malayalam film seems to be a distant dream for this Malayali. "I began my career as assistant director in the Malayalam film industry. But the fact remains that the industry here prefers directors with experience and years. In comparison, the Tamil film industry is more open to newcomers and new ideas," admits Rajjan, who adds, "At the same time, Malayalam films can brag of strong scripts. I would love to make a film here someday."asha.prakash@timesgroup.com
