The Uthamaputhiran team seems to have swiftly swung into action to end the controversy caused by certain remarks in the film that have hurt the sentiments of the people of a particular community in the state.Actor
Dhanush, who was accompanied by director Mithran R Jawahar and the producer of the film, unconditionally apologised on behalf of the team to anybody who had been hurt by the remarks.
The actor said,“We had no intention of hurting anybody’s feelings. If unintentionally, we have hurt somebody’s feelings, I’d like to apologise for it. Those remarks that were found objectionable have already been removed from the film’s cube prints. The remarks are being removed from other formats also and this work will get over in a day or two. In the meantime, we request people to permit the screening of the film in the affected areas.”
The film, which released in 240 screens in the state, was stopped from being screened in 41 screens in Coimbatore, 38 in Salem and three each in Madurai and Trichy after some people took exception to remarks made in the film about a particular community. The team disclosed that the total footage cut came to around two-and-a-half minutes.
Dhanush said, “This is not a film about caste or community. It is a film that deals with relationships in a family.”
