Its been a one-and-a-half-year wait since she debuted in Gaalipata. And Bhavana Rao has just signed her first worthwhile film. Its a Tamil film titled Kola Kolaya Munthirikka opposite Karthik, who played second lead to Dhanush in Yaradi Nee Mohini and has also done Mani Ratnams Yuva and Alai Payuthey, says Bhavana Rao.
What made her sign a Tamil film was there a shortage of offers in Kannada? My first priority has always been Kannada films.
But in spite of having a hit film to my credit, I didnt get any good offers. It was frustrating after some point and I felt let down because my talent wasnt being appreciated. But rather than doing any old film and delivering a flop, I preferred to wait for the right offer, says Bhavana.
But the offers that came her way were not even worth a glance, she adds. While some offered me second and third heroine roles, others wanted me to appear in a classical number because Im a good Bharatanatyam dancer. Just to add local flavour to the film, theyd say. Another director wanted me to do a horror film. Since you have big eyes, I can only think of you to play the character, was his comment! Today, when I look back, it seems hilarious. But I also know what it feels like to sit at home for a year, waiting for things to happen, says Bhavana.
Not many know that the actress did sign two films, Gagana Chukki and Holidays, last year. While she shot for Gagana Chukki only for a couple of days, the Holidays team returned within a week of shooting in Sakleshpur during the first schedule of the film. Both producers are currently facing some problems, so we dont know what the scene is. But I cant sit around and wait forever. Now that Im off to shoot for this film, theyll have to adjust their dates to suit mine, asserts Bhavana.
Shes all praise for her new team in Chennai. Ive never been styled by a professional before. Its a lot more professional and people stick to their word in the Tamil industry, says Bhavana, but back home, I dont know what directors expect from me. Im happy Ive finally got my due.
