A love story for Mani?

He is one man whom Kollywood keeps a close watch on to see his next move. Industry sources say that Mani Ratnam is now toying with a new story idea post the shelving of Ponniyan Selvan.
Apparently, Jayamohan, who came up with the script for Ponniyan Selvan, narrated two story ideas to Mani. And sources say the ace director took a liking to both — while he wanted to make one film with Vijay (post the shelving of Ponniyan...), he felt the other story idea — a rural-based subject — should be made with newcomers.There was also a buzz that Mani is also doing some location-scouting while working on the story but he has not yet firmed up on either.
With the hunt on for fresh faces, rumours are rife that actor Karthik’s son, Gautam, will be launched with this film. Karthik and Mani share a great rapport having worked together in several hit films like Mouna Ragam and Agni Nakshatiram. But a source tells CT, “There have been talks between Mani sir and Karthik on Gautam, but Mani sir is still not sure of whether he will make this movie and if he will eventually cast him.”
Looks like we’ll have to wait and watch what he decides.
