Charmee Zaveri, a Dubai based makeup artist-turned-actress who has acted in music videos like, 'Aankhein Meri,' 'G-Wagon,' 'Hassan Ch Jaan,' 'Gal Man Lay,' says this is an exciting time for newcomers in Punjabi entertainment industry. Charmee, whose latest video is on the song 'Hold My Kamariya', says, "I believe the boom in social media has played a major role in the growth of music industry." Excerpts from a conversation with her.
Do you think this is an exciting time for new actresses to feature in Punjabi music videos?
Yes, it is because in the recent times during the pandemic the music industry has really boomed. Time has changed because now actors have several other options too, like OTT platforms to showcase their acting craft. But, that said I also think that only OTT is not the option for newcomers. There are still a lot of fresh faces which are being launched through music videos. Especially the Punjabi music industry is currently doing extremely well with new faces.

You hail from Dubai, and are now working in Punjab. Did language become a barrier for you?
Yeah, I am born and bred in Dubai, so basically I’m a Dubai baby! I started my modeling journey here. It started with a makeup photoshoot and now I’m at this stage of being an actor. I’m very passionate about my work and the way I’ve grown it has been quite a learning experience for me in every way. As I was always passionate about being in front of the camera and acting, so for an artist language is never an barrier. Of course, you need to learn and understand the language in order to work in this industry but I think it comes from the process of training yourself to become better.
What are your plans for Punjabi films?
Yes, I am keen on it and if anything great comes my way, I'll surely go head.

I have a couple of Punjabi music videos lined up and I am also in talks for an OTT project.
