Gurnazar Chattha, Punjabi singer and composer, whose last song in Bollywood was Marjaawaan in Bellbottom, says he is not likely to give songs especially for films anymore. “A film takes 2-3 years in production, a song loses its vibe for me for that long,” says Gurnazar who has collaborated with Diljit Dosanjh, Jassie Gill, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan among others. He adds, “Now I tell producers if you want my song, check my channel, and I will give you rights of the song.”

With independent music being a rage, Gurnazar, who is also one among them, says at times collaborating with a production company is helpful. “How audiences accept a song is unpredictable. Signing up with a company is helpful for promotions and marketing. Dil Tu Jaan Tu is one of the few songs I released through a company, and it helped get traction. The flip side is independent artistes own their IP and are their own masters.”
With most Punjabi singers are also actors, Gurnazar, who made his acting debut in Gurnam Bhullar and Roopi Gill's Parinda Paar Geyaa (2023) says acting is not for him. "I have been an avid theatre actor in college," he says, adding, "In fact, I was an actor in college and not a singer. But, I feel now I am better being more focused on singing and the small experiment that I did with Parinda Paar Geyaa hasn't encouraged me to do more films. In my opinion, acting is not my cup of tea."
