The year 2023 kicked in and the new year's celebrations are still going on in different nooks and crannies of the world. Most people want 2023 to be very different from 2022, but actress-singer Bhumika Sharma believes that one thing should not change - the ban on gun culture in Punjabi songs.

For the uninitiated, in 2022, as per the revised arms license in Punjab, now there is zero tolerance against the promotion of violence in songs in the state. This ban has been appreciated by the public and many artists. Bhumika Sharma is also very elated by the decision and thus, talking to ETimes exclusively, she shared, “The one change that I wanted, actually happened in 2022; the ban on gun culture in Punjabi songs.”
“Now I believe in 2023 only beautiful songs will be played. The ones that should get the hype will be given their deserved limelight, which earlier was taken away because of the gun culture in the songs. My songs couldn't get the much-deserved attention,” she added.
#BossBabesOfPollywood: Bhumika Sharma on the dark side of the glam world: No one cares if something is true or not - Exclusive

Hello everyone, and welcome to ETimes’ latest series - #BossBabesOfPollywood. Herein every week we connect with one of the leading ladies of the Punjabi cine and music world and discuss the topics that are hardly spoken about. In this second chapter of our #BossBabesOfPollywood series, we connected with actress Bhumika Sharma of ‘Babbar’ fame and she spilled beans on the lesser-known facts and the dark side of the entertainment world.

“Not that bad to be honest, till the time you are charging less money. In my experience, I feel as an outsider you get fewer chances to get good or big movies till the time you are not a big brand yourself. So basically, if you are coming to this industry without any back support, relation, or godfather, then in order to make sure that you become a part of a bigger project, you will have to put in a little extra effort.”

“Where do I start? Well, the most important one is that there is absolutely no privacy. Then you can't joke around much, because almost everything will be taken out of context. There are always rumors flying around and no one cares if something is true or not. Have to be very careful what to speak and where to speak; even in front of industry people also because you never know who wants to bring you down.”

“The response is always mixed, who loves you will appreciate and critics are always there to make you stronger than ever. However, I have to admit that being an actress I love doing challenging roles. The more layers a character has, the more challenging it is.”

“One thing I like is Instant stardom and fame. I can’t hate Pollywood, but yes, I want to change a few things about it. For instance, in movies the over-dependence on the hero. I would like to have more projects in which actresses come in front to show what they are really capable of”.

Bhumika also pointed out how the songs used to lead to irrational behavior. She told us, “those songs are used to provoke people. There have been instances where we saw people getting drunk, firing shots on the stage, and leaving many performers dead. And so many times these issues were not even raised, as if the performers' life didn't matter.”
“Therefore, I am glad that this ban came out and now the real talent will be able to find its place,” concluded the artist.
