Punjabi celebrities who climbed the ladder of success right from their debut

The journey seems difficult unless you put up the courage to take the first step. Perhaps this is the mantra that has helped a lot of Punjabi celebrities to reach the heights of success. Though making it big in the world of glam right after the first strike is nothing short of a gamble, some celebs knew how to play their cards right. Read on to know about the Pollywood stars who rose to fame right after their debut:

2/6

Jimmy Sheirgill

Whenever Punjabi cinema is talked about, a name that effortlessly comes to mind is Jimmy Sherigill. The artist made his way to Pollywood in 2005 with ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ and right from there he had a grip on the audience. The movie was a blockbuster hit and with it, the industry got its one of the finest gems. There has been no looking back since then. Jimmy has also been a popular face in B-town, but that has never affected his cinematic charm on the Pollywood front. His recent release ‘Daana Paani’ is an example of same.

3/6

Amrinder Gill

Singer-actor Amrinder Gill has been one of the greatest contributors to the Punjabi entertainment world. Amrinder's first movie as a Punjabi actor was ‘Munde U.K. De’. It was a comedy movie released in 2009. Though Amrinder had a short role in the film, it was big enough for him to prove his mettle. Thereafter, he started getting more and more pivotal roles. From comedy to romance to the serious genre, Amrinder presented a range on the screen. He recently graced the 70 mm with the release of ‘Ashke’, a movie that celebrated an artist's love for bhangra.

4/6

Neeru Bajwa

There’s not just one but various reasons to why Neeru Bajwa is called the queen of Pollywood. One of the prominent reasons is that despite getting a huge opening in B-town’s ‘Main Solah Baras Ki’, Neeru preferred to stay focused in Pollywood projects. She commenced her journey with ‘Asa Nu Maan Watna Da’ in 2004. This goes without saying that her work was lauded highly by both critics and audience. Rest is just history. She has been giving hit after hit in almost every movie. 2018 has already seen her in ‘Laung Laachi’ and just after a couple of months after its release, she is ready to hit the box office with ‘Aate Di Chidi’ on 19 October.

5/6

Gippy Grewal

Some names need no introduction and Gippy Grewal is one of them. However, did you know that Gippy who is one of the leading Punjabi protagonists started his journey in Pollywood as a villain? With the release of ‘Mel Karade Rabba’, Gippy Grewal made his way into the Punjabi cinema in 2010. He played a grey shade on the screen and was highly lauded for his work. But owing to his acting skills and the gabru looks, Punjabi film industry couldn’t help but notice that he was a perfect hero material. Thus, his graph only saw the success curve. A recent example is his last release ‘Carry On Jatta 2’ and soon he will be setting a new benchmark with ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’, releasing on 31st August.

6/6

Surveen Chawla

Another Punjabi celebrity who rose to fame right after the debut is Surveen Chawla. The beauty did her first movie in 2011 opposite Punjabi superstar Jimmy Sheirgill. Titled ‘Dharti’, the film broke all box office records of that time. The movie gave her the right launching platform and Surveen made the best out of it. Thereafter, she showed her versatility on the screen by taking up movies from different genres. The Punjabi diva was last seen in 2015 released ‘Hero Naam Yaad Rakhi’, which featured her once again with her debut movie’s lead Jimmy Sheirgill.
