Punjabi film industry might not be as vast as Bollywood in headcount, but when it comes to talent, the former has some really fine jewels in the trove. One such gem is actor-comedian Jaswinder Bhalla. Today this veteran Punjabi artist turns 58, but who better than him to say that age is just a number. While at this point in time people start planning their retirement, but Jaswinder Bhalla is all young at heart and busy promoting his upcoming movie ‘Carry On Jatta 2’. Jaswinder Bhalla is perhaps one of the most highly educated celebs of the Punjabi industry. He holds PhD in Agriculture Science from Punjab Agriculture University. While in college, Bhalla did comedy performances in the university programmes, but at the same time, he managed his studies really well.

We all know Jaswinder Bhalla as an ace actor and a fabulous comedian, but not many people know that he even served a period as a faculty member in Punjab Agriculture University. Must say that the veteran actor did put his degree to good use! We just wonder how fun it would have been for the university students and teachers to have a jolly person like him around.

During his school days, he was an active participant in Independence Day and Republic Day programmes. In no time he made his way from school programmes to the All India Radio. In 1975 the actor was selected to perform for AIR.

It wasn’t a movie that made Jaswinder Bhalla rise to fame, but the audio cassette ‘Chhankata’. Released first in 1988, ‘Chhankata’ served as the career starter for Jaswinder Bhalla as the comedian. He kick-started his career with Bal Mukund Sharma, who was his classmate in the university. The title of the cassette came from the annual show Jaswinder and Balmukund performed in their college. Bhalla and his work caught the attention of Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar and form their own success touched his feet. He released 27 audio and video series of ‘Chhankata’.

Jaswinder Bhalla dedicated his entire life to performing arts. Besides doing college shows, the series of ‘Chhankata’ and movies, he did stage acts. One of his most lauded stage shows is ‘Naughty Baba in Town’. For the respective show, he also did the tour to Canada and Australia.

Talking of Jaswinder’s family, his father Master Bahadur Singh Bhalla was a primary school teacher in village Barmalipur. His wife Parmdeep Bhalla, is a Fine Arts teacher. The actor has two kids, a son and a daughter. While his daughter Ashpreet Kaur is married and lives in Norway, his son Pukhraj is an actor.
