Binnu Dhillon is regarded as one of the leading stars of the Punjabi cinema. He is a live wire when in front of the camera, and even more, fun to be around in person. But do you know he is social media shy? In the era of FaceTime, he prefers face to face conversation. Like this, there are a lot of things about the actor-producer that people don't know. Started his career from television

From ‘Carry On Jatta’ to ‘Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhayiyaan’, Binnu Dhillon has been highly lauded for almost every cinematic appearance he made. However, only a few people know that today's one of the prominent stars of the Punjabi film industry made his way to the world of entertainment via television. In the year 1998, Binnu did his debut television show and was appreciated for his work. Later he bagged a couple of other shows, but the actor gradually shifted from television to the big screen.

Bhangra was his first love

Besides being an effortless actor, Binnu Dhillon is a natural dancer, or to be more specific bhangra dancer. Right before he realized that acting was his field of interest, he was a professional bhangra performer. His love for the respective folk dance form began in college. According to a TOI report, he is four times gold medalist in bhangra and the respective art form was something he initially thought of taking ahead as his career.

Started his career in Pollywood as a villain

Owing to his knack for comedy Binnu Dhillon has done some of the most iconic comic roles in Pollywood. But did you know he started his journey in Punjabi cinema with negative characters. 2007 marked Binnu Dhillon’s debut in Pollywood with ‘Mitti Wajaan Mardi’, wherein he played a dark shade. Later, he gradually made a shift to situational comedy. In a recent interview with TimesofIndia.com Binnu said that he loves bringing negative shades on the screen, as an actor it allows him to show his versatility.

Connection with the theatre

Binnu Dhillon’s inclination towards the world of performing arts can be determined from his choice of the field during his college days. The artist did post graduation in theatres and television. On the small screen he appeared as an actor and on theatrical grounds, he donned the director’s hat. The play ‘Naughty Baba In Town’ was directed by the ‘Vekh Baraatan Challiyan’ fame and it not only stagged nationally but was offered to an international audience as well.

Bollywood appearances

After deciding to take his talent to the big screen, Binnu Dhillon’s debut movie wasn’t marked in Pollywood, but Bollywood. In 2002, Binnu Dhillon made his first appearance on the 70MM with ‘Shaheed-E-Azam’. Thereafter, he played a short yet pivotal role in Anurag Kashyap's directorial ‘Dev D’. Now he will again be seen playing a part in another Hindi movie, ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se’, which is scheduled to release this week on 31st August.
