Women’s Day Special: Interesting statements of Punjabi actresses on women empowerment

Though one day can never be enough to celebrate women’s rights and their contribution; since 1975 the 8th of March has been marked as a special day dedicated to the lovely ladies. Now since it’s the International Women’s Day, we thought why not to indulge in a little chit-chat with the leading ladies of Pollywood and know their take on a topic that must be addressed - women empowerment. Interesting, the way the Pollywood actresses spoke about the same, they not just gave a word of advice or some general message, but oozed confidence and said things that are meant to motivate one and all.

Scroll down to read about the take of Punjabi actresses on women empowerment.

Kavita Kaushik

Kavita Kaushik is one of the strong headed women of Pollywood. The girl never fears to speak her heart and mind and thus, when we asked her about her take on women empowerment, she was bluntly honest. She said, “We as a nation have had our basics messed up when it comes to women’s rights since ages; hence, today the need arises for her empowerment, the basic mentality of preferring a boy over a girl starting from the womb to every step of growing up, marriage and owning her own life is such a struggle thanks to the mental conditioning that is so deep-rooted . A woman should not have to play second fiddle because she has the ability to bear a child, her strength has been labeled as her weakness and that’s where it’s been going so wrong, a woman should not be frowned upon for her choices and nothing makes me angrier when a man is called driven when is working despite whatever age but a woman has to “settle down” when she marries or has a child. I’m a married woman and thanks to the support and understanding of my man I will continue to work not because my man can run our life any less wonderfully but because I'm the happiest when I’m working and it makes me feel worthwhile in my own eyes.”

She further added, “By taking a stand even to not be part of projects where a woman has a role of being only a man’s fantasy comes from heart and even if the stir I created with it makes a 10% change towards others waking up to the responsibility of giving better space in the script to the ladies would be a huge step towards women empowerment in the entertainment front . We are not dust that should “settle down” but should be the force that finally rises up! Hail my girl tribe! I love u all, happy women’s day!”

Monica Gill

Every term has one single dictionary definition but the way people describe it varies from person to person. Starting on this very note, here’s what Monica Gill had to say on women empowerment, “Women’s rights translate into different things for different people. For me, it’s the ability of all women to follow their dreams unapologetically. So this International Women’s Day, I’d like to wish all the lovely ladies reading this strength, courage, and persistence. Strength to stand tall in the face of adversity. Courage to go after what you want. And persistence to keep going even when the road gets tough. So ladies, celebrate yourselves and enjoy this day! Loads of love always!”

Rubina Bajwa

Irrespective of the modern day era, where on one hand, women are shinning out in every field, and on the other, a few others are fighting strongly for what is rightfully theirs; there are some who still fail to identify their true worth. This women’s day, a word of wisdom comes for them from the Punjabi actress Rubina Bajwa. She said, “Women must continue to raise not reduce each other's voices! There is such strength and determination in our gender we must use this power as sisters, not adversaries.”

5/6

Shraddha Arya

The first step towards success in any field comes from confidence, from believing in one’s self. When we reached out to the ‘Banjra - The Truck Driver’ fame actress Shraddha Arya to speak her mind on the topic of women empowerment, her first words were, “Women are already very powerful.” The actress then added, “There’s nothing that a woman can’t do! All she needs is for some people to not block their way and let them be the way they are.”

Musskan Sethi

Musskan Sethi who recently made her Pollywood debut with Pankaj Batra’s ‘High End Yaariyaan’ didn’t just speak about women empowerment, she spilled beans that how this phenomenon is being a part of the entertainment front. The actress quoted, “Bollywood and Pollywood are still very Indian and have stick to their values when they are representing women in cinema. At the same time, women are not just shown as girls from the fantasy land; rather have been shown as powerful figures as politicians, the caretakers of society. The roles that women portray in Indian cinema has changed a lot. As a matter of fact, the way women on the big screen are presented, it works as a role model for women with lesser opportunity in the rural areas as well. With entertainment being such a big industry, it allows women in real life to relate to women on the reel and gives them courage.”
