The Jagdeep Sidhu written and Vijay Kumar Arora directed film ‘Godday Godday Chaa’ made it to the big screens this Friday, i.e. May 26. Starring Sonam Bajwa, Tania, Gitaz Bindrakhia, and Gurjazz, the film is a family entertainer that tells the story of Punjab set in the 1980s when women were not allowed to be a part of baaraat. This film is a story of how finally women decide to break this ritual and how they taste victory.
This film exhibits excellence on different layers, and here are the top five things that impressed us in ‘Godday Godday Chaa’.
Pollywood is no stranger to movies that highlight the rituals of Punjab but ‘Godday Godday Chaa’ is special because it also talks about why that particular ritual is practiced, why it needs to be changed, and what measures can be taken to bring that change without hurting anyone. On the one hand, where the story in itself is so strong, on the other hand, its flawless execution makes it all the more power-packed. Jagdeep Sidhu and Vijay Kumar Arora ensured to serve a platter filled with emotions, laughter, and satire.
Though each and every character and actor in the movie did exemplary work, Tania’s role as ‘Nikko’ needs to have a special mention. In a very short span of time, Tania made her name with movies like ‘Qismat 2’, ‘Sufna’, ‘Lekh’ and more, but we will take the liberty to say that this was so far her best performance. Her character had a spice in it with a pinch of innocence, and Tania played it with utmost finesse.
Sonam Bajwa is one of the seasoned leading ladies that we have in Pollywood. Her ability to shine in versatile roles never fails to astonish the audience. And with ‘Godday Godday Chaa’ she once again proved her mettle. In fact, actors like Nirmal Rishi, Seema Kaushal, and Gurpreet Bhangu who were in the supporting cast, owned the screen with their performance. Their experience and effortless skill were visible on the 70mm.
‘Godday Godday Chaa’ mainly focused on women and how they were not allowed as baratis in Punjab back in the day. The men in the film were mostly seen as flag bearers of patriarchy. Amid this, Gitaz’s character was like a breath of fresh air. He respected his wife and stood by her to do the right thing. On the other hand, Gurjazz’s character was totally opposite but at the same time very quirky. His comic timing made the audience laugh out loud.
The music of the film has an old-world charm to it. Also, the soundtrack has a mix of dancing numbers, soothing melodies, and love ballads. So basically, while ‘Allarhan De’ makes you shake a leg, ‘Sakhiye Saheli’ takes you back in time, and ‘Kudiyan Di Marzi’ leaves you with teary eyes. All in all, it has all the flavours.
