They made people smile, in fact laugh and on the other hand, left them with teary eyes as well. And as the year is about to end, here is a quick recap of the top 3 Punjabi actresses and their work in 2022.
Neeru Bajwa
Neeru Bajwa was seen doing movies left, right, and center in 2022. She gave various characters and films in 2022; some worked, and some failed to impress. But the number of the former surpasses the latter. Let’s begin with her first movie of the year - ‘Kokka’. The actress played the role of an independent mature 40-year-old single woman who falls in love with a younger boy. She brilliantly showcased the hesitation of her character, the way it both feared the eye of society and had the gut to stand up against it. Though the actress was told not to bring such a subject to the big screen by many in the industry, she went with her instinct and gave a very fresh rom-com to Pollywood.
Moving further, her work in the movie ‘Maa Da Ladla’ also attracted a lot of attention and lot. She played the role of a single mother and an independent entrepreneur, who knows what she wants in life. Her character made sure to not put the guard down easily, and that is something that every mother can relate to.
Besides the rom-coms, Neeru Bajwa was seen in suspense crime thrillers Criminal’ and ‘Snowman’. In both movies, Neeru Bajwa proved her mettle as the Pollywood queen. From fear to helplessness, to courage, her character showed every emotion with utmost finesse.
Sargun Mehta
A lot of people said Sargun Mehta deserves an Oscar for her performance in ‘Moh’ and we totally second their word. Sargun Mehta’s portrayal of emotional characters in movies like ‘Qismat’ and ‘Qismat 2’ without a doubt were some of her finest works, but what she did in ‘Moh’ is beyond comprehension. She played the character (name Gore) of a mature woman in an abusive marriage who gives her heart to a young lad. Her love for him is pure, her feeling untainted, she finds her peace in him and expresses the same in her own language. But then a mountain of unfortunate events drops on her. She loses her love, she loses her dignity, she loses her zeal to live, and just when she finds her way back to life, the past comes knocking. In the intricate complexity of her role, you only see Gore and not Sargun, and perhaps that is why it is the best performance of the actress so far in her entire career.
Sonam Bajwa
Talk of versatility in Pollywood and an actress whose name will come to your tongue is Sonam Bajwa. The way she gets painted in the color of her every character and gives us a new Sonam every time is just astounding. This year she did three movies - ‘Main Vyah Ni Karona Tere Naal’, ‘Sher Baggaa’ and ‘Jind Mahi’. In all three movies, she had totally different characters. Her every character left a mark in the hearts of the audience, and in every role she proved her mettle like a pro.
