Punjabi actor, singer Ranjit Bawa has had back-to-back film releases in last two years. However, after LehmberGinni, Ranjit has decided to take a break from films. “I am taking a break for some time,” Ranjit told us, adding, “I want to focus on music now. I feel I was distracted from music for last two years because of films and my family too feels the same. If people don’t show you the mirror, you can’t be successful in life. Music is my first love, and I felt I have ignored it lately. Music fetched me love from so many people, I have to do more justice to do it.”
Ranjit’s recent films fared averagely, a fact he attributes to making bad choices. “Honestly, my family feels that I haven’t made a good choice in films recently. Sometimes films don’t turn out the way the makers said it would, which is out of an actor’s control.”
Talking about films enterring the crore club, he said, "I was offered two Bollywood films in recent times, but my family advised against it, saying I should first focus on my niche industry… Making a film with 100 or 400 cr budget is useful only if it is watched by people.”
As to how singers value add to films as actors, Ranjit said, "Every actor has a fan following who will watch their film at least once. But every film also creates a new audience. Films have introduced the new age Punjabi singers to the older generation. The youth knew us already through our music."
Ranjit is happy that he got to play a modern, city guy in his latest outing. He says, “Most of my characters were rural or I was acting in two hero films of late. LehmberGinni was one of the few films where I wore modern clothes (laughs). LehmberGinni was a solo film for me after long, and to judge an actor in a film as a solo artiste is a big thing.”
