Lights Camera Action: Smeep Kang to Jagdeep Sidhu - Pollywood's most loved directors

Smeep Kang

Some names need no introduction, and Smeep Kang is one of them. The Punjabi cine-world is mostly known for its comedy movies and Smeep Kang has given a number of such films. He has been the man behind the wheel for comedy classics like ‘Carry On Jatta’, ‘Lucky Di Unlucky Story’, ‘Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhaiyaan’, and more. All his movies are lauded for situational comedy, he has a method to portray madness. And the mess that he has brought in his climax scenes is something that not everyone can pull off.

Jagdeep Sidhu

They say the first impression is the last impression, and it seems Jagdeep Sidhu took this quite seriously. Perhaps that is why he didn’t leave any stone unturned when it came to his debut directorial ‘Qismat’. He made the audience laugh with his characters, he even made them cry with the pain of his characters. Post that he continued to do the same with ‘Shadaa’ and ‘Sufna’. He might not have a number of movies in his name, but all the films that he directed have been box office hits.

GIPPY1

Gippy Grewal is more popular as an actor and producer than a director. However, the movies that he has directed so far - ‘Ardaas’ and ‘Ardaas Karan’, are among the most appreciated films of Pollywood. Not many people know that initially, Gippy wanted ‘Ardaas’ to be directed by someone else. However, no one showed any faith in the script. Thus, Gippy decided to direct it all by himself and gave Pollywood a content-rich film.

Anurag Singh

Anurag Singh is a Punjabi director who has never feared taking risks. He is the one who made ‘Punjab 1984’, Punjab’s super hero movie ‘Super Singh’, ‘Yaar Anmulle’ and Bollywood project ‘Kesari’. Each of the movies is from a different genre and Anurag never hesitated from trying his hand in any of them.
