Exclusive! Mindo Taseeldarni: Interesting facts about the movie

The cast of ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ - Karamjit Anmol, Kavita Kaushik, Rajvir Jawanda and Isha Rikhi and the writer-director Avtar Singh recently indulged in an exclusive conversation with ETimes and spilled a lot of beans on a number of interesting facts about the movie. Thus, right from how did the movie happen to these stars to how the reel met the real, all inside scoop related to ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ is here. So before the movie makes it to the theatres on June 28, feast on the interesting facts.

Here's how the lead cast was roped in

Recently ETimes had an exclusive word with the leading stars of ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ and learned how did the movie happen to them. Kavita Kaushik told us earlier that Avtar Singh approached her for ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’, back when she was doing her debut Punjabi movie ‘Vekh Baraatan Challiyan’. However, both of them got busy with other projects and finally when ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ was ready to see the day’s light the actress got on board.

Now coming to the other actors, Karmjit Anmol told us it was his director Avtar Singh's vision to see him in the lead. Avtar Singh also confirmed that he sketched the character keeping Karamjit in mind. “Earlier, I took the project to some other production house, who said they would like some other actor to play Teja (Karamjit’s role), I told them it has to be done by Karamjit, because the script is not about the actor but the character, and this Karamjit is the perfect fit for this one.”, said Avtar Singh.

Beside Karamjit, the movie features Rajvir Jawanda in the lead. He plays Karamjit’s brother in the film. While spilling beans on how ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ happened to him, here’s what the singer turn actor said, “We have been discussing about the project, since long. Then the director Avtar Singh met me, and he told me he is making a movie which is very connected to Punjabi culture. This movie will be relatable to a number of people living in Punjab, it will make them wonder that they must have heard something like this in real somewhere or another. This beauty touched my heart. Also since it’s a project having Karamjit paji (Karamjit Anmol), saying no to them was never an option. Though I had limited time to shoot, as I had my back to back shows as well, when Karamjit paji said we have to do this film, we simply did it”.

Last but not least, Isha Rikhi is another leading character in the movie. Here’s how she boarded the train to ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’: “I was shooting for ‘Do Dooni Panj’ and Karamjit paji was there on the sets, and he first wanted me to play ‘Mindo’. Later, after going through the script again we both felt I fit better for the second character ‘Jeeto’. Then he made me meet the director Avtar Singh and rest is history.”

The plot is based on a contrast between a desi guy and a girl from the elite class of the society

Most of Avtar Singh’s movies take inspiration from contrast and ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ is no different. Talking about the same, Avtar Singh said, “In Mindo you will see the contrast between a proper desi guy and a girl from an elite class of the society. This is the contrast that brings out emotions. You would really enjoy seeing how these two people from two different backgrounds cross paths and meet at a commonplace.”

Rajvir Jawanda to play an army man in the movie

While talking to ETimes, Avtar Singh mentioned Rajvir Jawanda is the one who keeps saving Karamjit Anmol from all the troubles and messes in the movie. Talking about the same, when we asked Rajvir to spill some beans, he said, “I am playing an army man in the movie, so being responsible comes like second nature. Thus, you will see me as a very disciplined and sincere person in the film, who makes sure to act very responsible in the situations of need. Also since he is really close to his brother and loves him a lot, he just knows he has to protect him no matter what.

This is how Kavita Kaushik made Karamjit Anmol comfortable during romantic scenes

Karmjit Anmol confessed that romancing on the screen was not his cup of tea, but it was Kavita Kaushik who made him feel comfortable. When we asked about the same to Kavita, she said, “Karamjit Anmol is very cute and he is very shy in person. He was shy even when he had to give me a romantic look, let alone romancing me. I kept on telling him that you know you have to do it this way, it’s the demand of the scrip. Also, our height difference was one of the prominent reasons; let’s address the elephant in the room, he had to romance a 6 feet girl. However, I told him that even my real life husband is an inch or half smaller than me, and then with heels, girls anyway look taller, so don’t worry our jodi will rock the screen.”

The actress also added, “To be honest, this difference of our height and appearance is the real beauty of the movie. It shows how two different puzzle pieces are meant to fit perfectly to form something unique.”

Kavita Kaushik and Isha Rikhi - from reel life sisters to real-time buddies

Kavita Kaushik and Isha Rikhi, who are playing sisters in the movie, met on the sets of ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’, but their pictures from the shoot and all the BTS videos hint that the two have known each other since long. Spilling some beans on it, Isha said, “I met Kavita on the sets only, and it was so amazing working with her. First thing first, I have been a fan of her tv show, and I never missed a single episode, so I was too excited to work with her. Also, she is such a senior artist and I learned so much from her, for instance, the art of being in the moment. You know when Kavita is working, she is working, you can’t distract her with anything she will be too focused, and when she is in another zone, she will live that to the maximum, which is simply great.”

Kavita Kaushik was also all praise for Isha. She said, Isha herself is a very sweet girl and a very humble person and thus, she speaks highly of the other person.
