‘We don’t need a special day to celebrate’

“I was working on the set of Jatt & Juliet on New Year’s, which is also like family,” says Neeru, adding, “It doesn’t pinch me or my family that I am away on work during some festivals. We don’t believe you need a particular day to celebrate, as every day we are together is a celebration. My work is their work, my achievements are theirs, I got back on January 2, so now we will celebrate.” Looking back, Neeru pays gratitude to 2023. “The year was so generous, personally and professionally. Starting off with the film Kalli Jotta, then Buhe Bariyan, to Shayar and now Jatt & Juliet. Personally, my family is healthy and happy, thank you 2023,” she says.

‘I look for scripts I can visualize while reading’

Leading the way with strong films as a female actor, Neeru says her choices are well deliberated. “I consciously choose films because of their scripts,” she says, adding, “I don’t set out to do a specific genre but look for scripts that reach out to me, grab my attention, and films which I can visualize while I am reading them. I love challenging myself as an actor and producer. I feel I have changed, grown so much. I want to further explore the actor in me.”

‘Amazing how Punjabi cinema is thriving on OTT’

“It is amazing to see our growth as an industry including on OTT where some of my films like Buhe Bariyan released. Every year we reach new territories. We still have a long way to go, but I know we will get there. Our talent is as good as any other film industry.”
