Dunki: Did you know it was a house in Jalander that inspired director Rajkumar Hirani to make the Shah Rukh Khan starrer?

As Shah Rukh Khan gears up for the release of his third film of the year, ‘Dunki,’ director Rajkumar Hirani shares the fascinating backstory of how a distinctive house in Jalandhar sparked the creative flames for this immigration drama.

In a revealing 'Dunki Diaries' video Shah Rukh Khan showed a captivating image of a house featuring a cement airplane perched on its terrace. Contrary to common assumptions, Hirani clarifies that the home was original and no work of CGI. Located around Jalandhar, Punjab, the airplane and the house signify that either one or more than one person from the family has relocated abroad. The airplane signifies pride that our family member has shifted to a foreign land.



There was another picture, that showed Hirani standing in front of the very house. Hirani shares "This photo was taken when we decided to make the film Dunki and visited the house for research.” That was the time when the director got to know what the airplane highlights and more than cement structure, it is a part of culture in Punjab.

Shah Rukh Khan, joining the conversation, expressed that he too has seen such structures on houses while shooting in Punjab. However, he thought it was just a creative way to put water tanks on the top of the house. Hirani further enlightens, that the structures are sometimes used as tankers, but the one picture that caught his attention had two bedrooms built inside.
