Punjabi film, 'The Black Prince', which recently premiered in London, has received an encouraging response from the audience, from filmmakers like Gurinder Chadha and Ashutosh Gowarikar, and cricketer Harbhajan Singh. After the premiere, actor Satinder Sartaaj who plays Maharaja Duleep Singh, the central character of the film, met Gurinder for an interaction. The filmmaker, while expressing her admiration for the project, also appreciated his act, saying, “It was a performance from a real poet.” She also admitted that she had toyed with the idea of making a film on the Punjabi royal a decade ago but didn’t pursue it.

“It’s a moving story about a man and his spiritual journey,” she said, adding that the movie, directed by Kavi Raz, will take its viewers through a tale of ups and downs in Maharaja Duleep Singh’s life. Shabana Azmi plays Maharani Jindan Kaur, Duleep Singh’s mother.
