A minimalist play in all senses, ‘Love You’ is an intriguing act. What starts off as a farcical piece revolving around child's play, tackles several complex questions, the most important being - What is love?
On a bare bones set of a few benches, Julian and Lia begin their quest to find the true meaning behind the idea of love. What unfolds is the actors embodying characters from their families to shed light on their personal versions of love. While packed to the brim with innocent humor, Love You definitely touches on some deeply philosophical points about life, always keeping the audience engaged.
What sets the play apart is the power packed performance by Parna and Shivraj. There is finesse in their acting and their chemistry is evident. One grows to care about the crisis in their lives and is deeply invested in them finding happiness.
The play addresses several important interpersonal issues and how it affects those around us. The transitions are crisp with not one wasted movement, aiding a fast paced story. The minimalistic play lacks an elaborate set which does take away from the enjoyment, and the ending too seems a bit hurried, leaving the audience on an anti-climactic note – a bitter sweet overall experience. However, the journey taken alongside Julian and Lia is a reward by itself.
Love You is a good example of how strong performances can touch the heartstrings of the audience. The play promises to be a good bit of fun and gives you some definite food for thought.
