Veena Jamkar: Movies of the actress that you should not miss

Veena Jamkar is a young diva and versatile actress of Marathi film industry. Before getting recognition in showbiz, she was doing theatres and has been part of a number of plays. Some of her plays include ‘Dalpatsingh Yeti Gava’, ‘Char Diwas Premache’, and ‘Ek Rikami Bajoo’. Veena entered Marathi films and got her first break in ‘Bebhaan Valu’ (2008). Her works in Marathi films are commendable. Here we give you a rundown of some of her Marathi movies that are a must watch.

'Lalbaugchi Rani'

Cinematographer-turned-director, Laxman Utekar's 'Lalbaugchi Rani' revolved around a special girl named, Sandhya played by the actress Veena Jamkar, who ventures out of her house with her parents on her 24th Birthday, but her happy day turns into a nightmare when Sandhya goes missing in Mumbai. The worried parents try their best to find her but in vain. Sandhya then meets new people and has her own experiences in the city of dreams. The film is technically sound, especially the cinematography. Veena has managed to stand out through her performance as Sandhya. The film is not just a one-time watch. It is entertaining and thrilling and is bound to catch up with their audience.

‘Tapaal’

A Laxman Utekar's directional, Marathi movie ‘Tapaal’ is based on the life of the rural people which was narrated in a contemporary and intelligent manner. As Utekar has been a successful cinematographer, he has carried that responsibility in this film too and his work behind the camera is excellent. With perfect background song which suits the situations, it connects the audience fantastically. Veena Jamkar moves you with her act that oozes her high-quality talent. Child actor Rohit Utekar is excellent in a very difficult and physical and emotionally draining role. ‘Tapaal’ is an interesting moving experience and worth watching.

‘Taptapadi’

Director Sachin Naargoje's 'Taptapadi' is set in the pre-independence days, and the script of the movie is inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's life story. The movie revolves around Meera (Veena Jamkar) Madhav (Kashyap Parulekar) and Sunanda (Shruti Marathi). The filmmaker Sachin has presented the love story of Meera and Madhav with proper Maharashtrian family values, culture and traditions of the 1930's. Veena portrays brilliance with her exceptional performance, adding her heart and soul to her respective character. ‘Taptapadi’ sets the best example of a good period film in Marathi, and does succeed in leaving an impact on the audience. It is certainly a worth watch.

‘Lalbaug Parel’

The Marathi film 'Lalbaug Parel' directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, is based on the life of mill worker and how the shrewd mill owners, with the support of the Government played their cruel game to exploit the poor mill workers. The film revolves around the nexus of politician and mill worker for the closure of mills. The filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar goes deep into details of the issues to highlight the impact of the strike. As a director, Manjrekar has done a commendable job to capture the minds of the audience with the emotional scenes. Actress Veena Jamkar plays an important character of Manju- the daughter of the mill worker. She plays her part with total commitment. ‘Lalbaug Parel’ is a good, realistic and hard-hitting film and worth a watch.

‘Tukaram’

Director Chandrakant Kulkarni's ‘Tukaram’ is Marathi biopic of great saint poet, Tukaram Bolhoba Ambile. The film focuses on the varied experiences in the life of Tukaram which actually led to him becoming a saint. The role of Sant Tukaram and his wife Rakhma is played by Jeetendra Joshi and Veena Jamkar. Tukaram's parents Bolhoba and Kankakee were played by Sharad Ponkshe and Pratiksha Lonkar respectively. Both Joshi and Jamkar succeeded in doing justice to their respective roles. The message that the directed wishes to deliver has been brought up quite well.
