On his 29th birthday, Akshay Waghmare pledges to donate his eyes

Marathi actor Akshay Waghmare, who turned 29, has pledged his eyes for donation. The

actor signed the eye donation form at Ruby Hall Clinic yesterday afternoon.

Akshay claims that the inspiration for this came from the many visually-challenged people he's seen crossing the road. He says, "These individuals are so disciplined while crossing the road, unlike most of us, even though we can see. I usually donate blood on my birthday. But the fact that such people deserve a chance to see, inspired me to do pledge my eyes this time."

Akshay is now part of the list of actors who've pledged their eyes after death, some recent ones being Hrithik Roshan, Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal. "Eye donation is important, and as artistes, we have a responsibility to encourage others to do the same," says Akshay, who has already gotten three of his friends to pledge their eyes as well. “As actors, we step into the shoes of different characters and live life from their perspective. I'd like for the same to happen in reality. After I'm gone, I'd want to continue seeing the world through someone else's perspective,” he adds.
