Music review: Bandishala

While the posters and teasers of this Mukta Barve starrer have been quite interesting, the music of Bandishala doesn’t quite hit the mark. Music composer Amitraj takes the tried and tested route of four songs from different genres for this album, starting off with Dayaghana Re Hi Yachana, which the composer croons as well.
The song is a prayer song, with a chorus and sounds right out of a morning school assembly. The lyrics by Sanjay Krishnaji Patil are meaningful but the song fails to make an impact.
Vaishali Samant sings the next song, Petala Lal Diva, and is spot on with the

lavani

, unlike some of her songs in the recent past where she has gone off rhythm. Vaishali owns the song, that encapsulates the essence of a lavani, complete with the

dholki

and ghungroo tunes.
Next up is Diva Dharuniya Jasi Sasara, a marriage song that speaks about the bride leaving for her in-laws’ place after getting married. This song brings out the typical pre-wedding atmosphere and while Rasika Ganoo, Mrunmayee Dadke and Arti Kelkar are sincere in their singing, the overall appeal of the song is not that great.
The playlist ends with Kalokhachya Watevarati, sung by

. It’s not an uplifting number but the singer makes the most of it. Priyanka gets the highs and lows right and makes this one stand out among the other songs. Having said that, Bandishala’s songs aren’t the ones you would want to play on loop.
