Thank U Vitthala Movie Review {2/5}: Critic Review of Thank U Vitthala by Times of India

Plot: Fed up with living in poverty and mediocre life as Mumbai’s dabewala, Haribhau insults Lord Vitthal for being unfair and partial towards the wealthy. The latter takes a new avatar to grant Haribhau's wishes. Review: The movie draws a strange similarity to the Salman Khan starrer God Tussi Great Ho, Akshay Kumar's OMG! Oh My God and strangely also to the Govinda starrer Sandwich (Haribhau leads a bigamous life here). As a dabbawala Haribhau (Anaspure) is frustrated with his life. He insults Lord Vitthal and when the latter asks him what he wishes for, Haribhau asks for the life of a rich industrialist. He soon realises that wealth has to be coupled with power to be happy. So he asks Lord Vitthal to grant his wish to live as a politician, just to become corrupt with money and power. The story does not end here. The expose of his scams sends him into cardiac arrest. On his deathbed, Haribhau bargains with Lord Vitthal to take over Yamraj’s duty for few days. It is finally after all this that Haribhau realises that he is happier leading the life of a dabewala. Be it the flamboyant industrialist Varde or the corrupt politician, Anaspure manages to keep his characteristic style of dialogue delivery intact. He is at ease in all the characters he portrays. As Lord Vitthal, Manjrekar is spot on. This role reminds one of his role in ‘Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ where he comes to the aid of the protagonist as and when required. For fans of Anaspure's style, this film is a fairly decent watch. However, it takes a lot of time to unfold, making the viewer impatient. The addition of two songs liberally laced with double entendre end up making the viewers cringe. On the positive side, the message that the grass is always greener on the other side manages to come across very well. But, in trying to club too many things into one film, director Devendra Jadhav ends up doing justice to none. Watch this one only if you want to.
