Some of the Marathi sports films you should not miss

Sports and cinema have been used as forms of entertainment ever since time immemorial, but they are different from each other in many ways. But when put together they create a great combination. Bollywood has recently shifted its focus to the sports genre and thus sports films are becoming more appreciated by the audiences. Unlike Bollywood, M-town directors are also bringing in the trend of sports films in Marathi movies. Sports movies have more of an impact on the people as they teach team spirit and encourage patriotism. Here are a few sports film that have successfully portrayed the importance of different sports.

'Ajinkya'

Tejas Vijay Deoskar directorial 'Ajinkya' featured Sandeep Kulkarni, Kadambari Kadam, Sarika Nilatkar in lead roles. The story revolves around basketball coach Anant (Sandeep Kulkarni). His goal is to always be on the no. 1 spot and be the winner by any means. The film is about how after quitting coaching, Anant comes back to action and makes his own basketball team and how in a while his approach towards winning the game changes is interesting to watch. The film also highlights the problems faced by the players. The movie definitely promotes the game of Basketball and delivers a good message to the players.

'Taleem'

Nitin Madhukar Rokade's 'Taleem' starred Abhijeet Shwetchandra, Vaishali Dabhade, Mitali Jagtap, Vishnu Joshilkar, Prashant Mohite, Yashpal Sarnath in prominent roles. The director promotes wrestling (Kushti) in this movie. The film unfolds with the wrestling coach getting impressed by a little boy's attitude to fight against all the odds when everyone is bullying him and are against him. The film is about the journey of this kid Bhavdya growing into a wrestler. It also shows how he falls for a girl in the Lavani troupe that has arrived in the village. The film has tried to tell us what does it take to become a good wrestler. How from the tender age you have to break your back training yourself for the sport. This movie is a real inspiration in one way for the wrestlers and also for the common man.

'Gotya'

Directed by Bhagwan Vasantrao Pachore, this movie pictured Rajesh Shringarpure, Sayaji Shinde, Aanand Ingale, Kamlakar Satpute, Surekha Kudachi, Purnima Ahire, Rushikesh Wankhede and others. The movie starts with a kind of weird opening where a lady during her pregnancy swallows a marble and therefore names her newborn as Gotya. The boy Gotya is obsessed with playing marbles since childhood. He is so good at playing marbles that he bags some state and national awards for the same. Now Gotya wants sports authorities to accept it as a legal game, what are the situations he faces when playing the international championship is worth the watch.

'Re Raya'

Directed by Milind Shinde, it starred Bhushan Pradhan, Vivek Chabukswar, Sanskruti Balgude, Uday Tikekar, Prakash Dhotre and Hansraj Jagtap in important roles. The story is about the 3 children and their coach's struggle to fulfill their dreams. The story is about how Adesh (Pradhan), switches from sportsman to a coach and selects 3 of the kids and trains them in different sports. What politics and the obstacles he faces while making them the topmost athletes form the core of the movie.

'Bedhadak'

'Bedhadak'

Santosh Manjrekhar's film featured Girish Taware, Ashok Samarth, Ganesh Yadav, Anant Jog, Sneha Raykar, Namrata Gaikwad, Nayan Jadhav, Akshay Waghmare, Sushrut Mankani. The story is between the clashes of a father and son where Arun Shahane (Yadav), the principal of a college wants his son Ajay (Taware) to pass out with 100 % results whereas the kid has his soul in the sports. Ajay approaches his boxing coach Ramakant Desai who trains him as a boxer. How Ajay overcomes all the hurdles in this journey is really inspiring.
